On behalf of HRH Prince Sultan Ibn Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Minister of Defence, and Inspector General, HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, has inaugurated on Saturday 7th November 2009, corresponding to 19th Zul Qaeda 1430 the 6th annual meeting of the Saudi Society for Civil Engineering to be held from 7-9 November 2009, corresponding to 19-21 Zul Qaeda 1430 at the main Conference and Ceremony Hall.
This year's meeting is under the title of "Giant Projects: Higher Level of Civilization and Engineering Challenge".
The first seminar, which was chaired by Eng Mufarrih Mohammed Al-Zahrani, Director General of Roads and Transport in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, consisted of a number of lectures.
Dr Eng Habib Mustafa Zain Al-Abdeen, Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Affairs, gave a lecture on the effectiveness of using trains to reduce congestion in the holy areas.
Eng Faisal Ali Al-Ghamdi, of the Saudi Railways Organization, gave a lecture on the project of Makkah-Madinah train.
Eng Isam Ahmed Kalthoum highlighted the projects of Al-Shamiya Company for Urban Development.
Eng Falah Shaddad Al-Sahli, of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, spoke about the third phase of Al-Shabia water systems.
The second seminar was chaired by Eng Saud Mohammed Saeed Al-Ahmadi, of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation.
Eng Ibrahim Khalil Katbakhana, Deputy Secretary of Jeddah Municipality for Project and Construction Management Contracts, and Dr Abdul-Ghaffar Imtiyaz Addin gave a lecture entitled "Project management Office in Jeddah Municipality: A Journey to Paradigm Shift".
Dr Abdullah Mustafa Mihriji, KAU Dean of Students' Affairs, spoke about the environmental assessment of giant projects.
Dr Yassin Abdurrahman Al-Jafri, Dean of Prince Sultan College for Tourism and Business, spoke about the financing of giant projects and economic pressures.
Eng Abdullah Mohammed Al-Jedaibi, Director of Programmes and Projects of the Eastern Region Municipality, spoke about the management of industrial projects.
